Fashion Forum - Episode 12: Meet Boutique Owner, Himal Kamdar

On Tuesday, October 20th, Himal Kamdar, owner of women’s boutique, Sybaritic Bags and Clothing joined Fashion Forum to talk about how she got into the handbag and clothing business. Originally from India, Himal came to the United States in 2010. In 2015, she brought over products from her parent’s handbag business in India and sold them on eBay and Amazon. The bags sold well, and due to that success, she decided to start own brand.
Himal wanted to choose a brand name that was unique and represented the luxurious experience she wanted to bring to her customers, and Sybaritic Bags was born. Sybaritic Bags began as a kiosk in the Christiana Mall in Delaware, and although the bags were a hit, there was only room to display only a small fraction of Himal’s inventory. Sybaritic Bags expanded to a brick and mortar store in New Jersey for a year and a half, and is now located in Bear, DE.

What Sybaritic Bags Has to Offer
Sybaritic Bags targets women in the 35-55 age range who like fashionable and comfortable clothing. Himal regularly researches fashion trends and speaks to her customers to ensure their needs are being met. She prides herself on providing top notch customer service to her clients to ensure they look and feel great about their purchases. Step into the boutique and in addition to handbags, you’ll find graphic t-shirts, jeans, jumpsuits, special occasion gowns, plus sizes, accessories and more.
Challenges and Successes
One of the challenges Sybaritic Bags has faced is getting funding to support her growing business—especially during this COVID pandemic—but during the initial shutdown, Himal was able to recharge and develop a plan for the future. Having the ability to grow from managing a kiosk at the mall to a storefront and e-commerce site has been a rewarding experience for Himal, and she continues to grow her business to include additional products and services.
