Jillian Johnson-James began her journey as a jewelry maker and small business owner during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wanting to do something fun and healthy during the time spent sheltering at home with her children, she began researching the benefits of yoga, meditation, and Chakra healing techniques.
During her research, Jillian discovered waist beads, an African accessory consisting of small decorative glass beads, crystals, stones, and charms on a string that are worn around the waist. Not only are they a beautiful way to celebrate heritage, they can also track weight loss. It was then that 5 Heartbeads LLC was born—named after Jillian’s favorite movie The Five Heartbeats, and Jillian’s five children.
