Celebrating Black Style and Beauty

Hi fashionistas,

Can you believe we’re at the end of February already?

2023 is moving along quickly, and I encourage you to be intentional about how and where you spend your energy and time.

  • Are you doing things you love?

  • Are you surrounding yourself with people who make you feel seen and safe?

  • Are you reenergizing yourself to make sure you’re ready to engage with the world in a healthy and productive way?

If not, this is a great time for a reset. If your life is not aligned with your goals and objectives, set aside time to get back on track.

Celebrating Black Style and Beauty

Yes. It’s (the last day of) Black History Month, and I’m celebrating all year by supporting Black businesses.

In addition, I have recommendations for five fashion and beauty-related documentaries that you may want to check out if you haven’t seen them already.

Five Must-See Black Fashion and Beauty Documentaries

I love learning about the contributions of Black women and men to the fashion and beauty industries. If you feel similarly, you’ll likely enjoy the following documentaries.

1. Black and Iconic: Style Gods

Billy Porter narrates and guides us through the contributions of Black creatives in style, music, and entertainment in this four-part docuseries.

2. The Remix: Hip Hop x Fashion

Hip hop has played a huge part in my life, including how I experience and interpret fashion. This documentary examines the intersection of hip hop culture and fashion, and features fashion trailblazers, including Misa Hylton, Dapper Dan, and Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss.

3. Fresh Dressed

Fresh Dressed takes a look at the origins of hip hop music and culture, through the lens of style — which continue to heavily influence global fashion to this day.

4. The Black Beauty Effect

This three-part docu-series highlights and celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of Black women in the fields of beauty, skincare, and hair, featuring industry pioneers, experts, and influencers. This docuseries is informative, affirming, and inspired me to improve my skin care routine.

I want to make sure my black doesn’t crack. :-)

5. The Beauty of Blackness

The Beauty of Blackness chronicles the story of Fashion Fair cosmetics, its success, and the recent reinvention and revitalization of the brand.

I hope you get a chance to check them out.
