On episode 8 of Fashion Forum, I spoke with Philadelphia-based image consultant, Gregory Jerome. Gregory has spent over 20 years in the retail industry at stores like Coach, Nike, Wilsons Leather and more, and has used his experience and love for fashion to empower people through image and style. His offering includes a number of services, including personal image consulting, closet audits, wedding consultations, workshops and more.

As a young boy, Gregory was drawn to fashion, but due to limited resources he wasn’t able to afford the latest fashions. Thankfully, Gregory’s sister was a fashionista with creative flair, and she taught him how to create a signature style, despite not have a huge budget. Gregory’s style transformation had begun, and the subsequent attention helped boost his confidence and set the tone for his career aspirations.

Gregory’s Approach and Style Philosophy

For Gregory, price is the not the determining factor when shopping for clients. He frequents thrift stores and shops the clearance racks to grab unique pieces and score great deals.
Gregory is a strong proponent of using color to create a mood and believes that we reveal a part of our personality using color.
Using textures, fabrics, and focusing on garment construction are key elements in the clothing selection process.
Fit is key. When purchasing clothes off the rack, get them tailored for a custom fit. Clothing should hug, not suffocate the body.
Gregory is a fan of the shift to business casual attire in the workplace, because it gives people more latitude in expressing their personalities.
Build a capsule wardrobe with pieces you mix and match to help stretch your wardrobe.

Believe in yourself.
Be creative.
Shine your light on all those you come into contact with.
You can overcome any challenge you face in life.
Use image to help propel you forward.
