Anatomy of An Outfit: Making Your Clothing Work for You
Happy Sunday my fashionable friends!
In January, I introduced what will be a recurring post titled Anatomy of An Outfit, where I will provide insight into my outfit choices and share links so you can shop the same or similar pieces.
This post will include two of my recent looks.
Red White and Blue
I love the drama and comfort of a voluminous maxi skirt. It’s a piece that takes center stage and can be dressed up or down.
In this ensemble I went with a red, white, and blue theme, wearing a faux leather skirt with a high waist that sits right under the breasts. My expanding midsection did not allow for me to wear it that way—but that’s a story for another day—so I used my t-shirt to camouflage that area.
I chose a t-shirt that is a few sizes too big and created a side knot to define my waistline. That’s a great trick to use when tucking in your shirt is not a good option.
I threw on a cropped red denim jacket that I’ve had for a few years. The goal was to tie the color in to the red heart on my t-shirt and in my eyeglasses, bag, and sneakers.
Yes, I wore sneakers so I can be comfortable and fashionable.

The skirt is available here.
Similar frames can be found here. The quality is amazing and they’re designed by my friend. #WeR1Exclusives #ShopSmallBusinesses

Shimmer and Shine
With this next outfit, I decided to shimmer and shine. My gold sequin top is actually designed to be worn with the zipper in the back. I turned it around so it zips in the front for two reasons—the design, including the high neckline wasn’t the most flattering look because I have a full bustline. (see my previous post for more context) Also, if you don’t have someone to zip the back of your garments, it can be an almost impossible task, so I turned it around and problem solved!
I paired it with a ball skirt with a high-low hemline, which is great because it allows me to show off my fabulous patchwork boots which “dress down” the look a little.
Shop the look below. The top is no longer available, so I included a few options that will give a similar effect.
