“Dopamine Dressing” and My Favorite Spring Trends
Yay! Spring is Here.
Spring is underway and I don’t know about you, but I am so excited to wear my “warm weather clothes.” Now that we’re out and about, back to work, and engaging in more face-to-face activities, this is a great time to think about stepping up your style game.
Don’t Forget About Your Fall and Winter Outerwear
Before you get too caught up in planning your spring and summer outfits, remember to take care of your fall and winter outerwear. Throw your coats and jackets in the washing machine, or take them to the dry cleaner so they’ll be ready when the weather cools down.
Trends
Now on to the fun stuff!
Each season we’re told by the fashion industry, what’s considered “trendy” and “in style.” Trends are cyclical, and although there is very little that can be considered new,, it IS interesting to take a look at what the style predictions are, and how they’re being interpreted. I did a little research, and here are my five favorite spring trends.
My Top Five
Color
Pastels are an obvious choice for this time of year, but they’re richer and bolder than in years past. Pair two or more pastels for a head-turning look.
I’ve also seen lots of highly pigmented colors, including limoncello, tangerine, watermelon, very peri (Pantone’s color of the year), Kelly green, and aqua. The past couple of years have been tough in many ways, and some of our style sensibilities have been suppressed. Wearing rich and bright colors is a great way to express yourself.
Patterns
I love bold patterns, including graphic and abstract prints, fabulous florals, and geometric shapes — and it seems like they’re everywhere. Embrace the power of patterns and turn up the volume on your outfits.
Suits
Pant suits are trending this spring, and I’m not talking about “boardroom meeting suits.” The 2022 versions include interesting tailoring, bold colors, and eye-catching prints.
And one of the best things about suits is they can be broken up and worn as separates, allowing you to mix and match, pair with different shoes and accessories, and get the most out of the individual pieces.
Tulle Skirts
Apparently, tulle skirts are “back.” As far as I’m concerned, they never went out of style — and spring is a great time to pull them out of your closet and include them in your fashion rotation.
Tulle skirts are a beautiful and fun statement piece, and they’re great conversation starters. (For all you introverted fashionistas.)
If you want to wear a tulle skirt but haven’t — what’s stopping you? There are many styles to choose from. And if a poofy version is too much for you, consider an A-line style, or choose a skirt that includes other types of fabric, like the camo version, shown in this post.
Dopamine Dressing
I recently heard the term, “dopamine dressing,” and it seems to be gaining a lot of traction. It’s described as “dressing in a way that boosts your mood,” and encourages you to experiment outside your comfort zone. It also involves leveraging color and its unique significance in the context of your outfit choices.
I know…that doesn’t sound very “new,” but if you’re stuck in a fashion rut, this is a great time to mix things up a bit.
If you typically wear neutrals, try adding some color to your wardrobe.
If you normally stick with solids, experiment with a few prints.
For those who play it safe with fashion, try combining different patterns.
I’m sure we can all use an extra dose of happiness and joy, no matter how small — and clothing has the power to impact how we feel.
